I was on my way back from Stoke-on-Trent (EMU heaven) and dropped on a good day. Plenty of action and loads a sun! I rushed back to watch highlights of Freddie blowing away the Ozzies!! The quarry ships millions of tons of aggregates by rail every year. Regular destinations include Washwood Heath, Ely, Leeds and Selby. For many years the distinctive orange RMC JGA bogie hoppers were common on these aggregate trains. They have since been acquired by EWS and dispersed throughout the network. There is plenty of aggreagte business in the area. An EWS Class 66 at Great Rocks Junction. The Tunstead works is at right. An empty stone train heads back to the quarry for loading. EWS diesels are kept busy on stone trains. An empty stone train is pushed into the loading area at Peak Dale. The Frontloader looks like its loading the aggregate into the loco! A spare diesel. A loco waits with its loaded train of aggregate. A CAT Front Loader scoops another load as EWS 66155 waits in the siding. The CAT Frontloader loads aggregates into HOA hoppers. Some congestion at Peak Dale as Frontloaders get to work. Shunting operations I think this is an HIA hopper but there are no markings. HOA 320032 at Peak Dale ExRMC JGA 19224 at Peak Dale.
